Coming Changes to Small Claims Processes in B.C.

As of June 1, 2017 there will be some changes made to the Small Claims process in B.C.

For starters, the Small Claims cap will be raised from $25,000 to $35,000.

There will be simplified trials for cases up to $10,000.

And most claims under $5,000 will be handled by the Civil Resolution Tribunal. There’s even an app that will allow you to file a claim from your smartphone.

Full details on the changes can be found on the Provincial Court of British Columbia website and the Civil Resolution Tribunal website.
